The Garden Lakes community is the very definition of the term “hidden gem,” and it’s one of my favorite neighborhoods in the Sarasota-Bradenton area. It’s extremely well-kept, conveniently located, and offers some of the best home values you’ll find locally.
A picturesque, vibrant 55+ gated community located in Bradenton, Florida, Garden Lakes tucked quietly away just off S.R. 70 East- about 3 1/2 miles west of I-75. Its 295 residences were built from the mid- 1980’s to mid-1990’s, with several being built a few years after that.
As you pass through the community’s gated entrance and gently wind your way through its quiet streets, you’ll notice features that many other affordable neighborhoods are lacking, such as towering oak trees, tropical foliage, lush landscaping, and barrel tile roofs on all the homes. There are picturesque lakes scattered throughout the neighborhood, where you can enjoy watching an array of birds and fish.
Maintenance fees are low compared to other neighborhoods with similar amenities. Fees include lawn maintenance and tree trimming, trash pickup, basic cable, and exterior painting, as well as landscaping of the extensive common grounds. There’s also a long list of recreational amenities that are included.
An abundance of amenities and activities are available to promote residents’ fitness and fun- such as tennis courts, pickleball courts, a large heated swimming pool, shuffleboard courts, and a separate fitness facility equipped with treadmills, weight equipment, and exercise bikes. There’s also a spacious clubhouse that’s complete with kitchen facilities and dining room, dance floor, card rooms, a small library, piano, and more.
Garden Lakes neighbors enjoy getting together frequently for potluck dinners, holiday gatherings, dance parties, card games, educational classes, tailgate parties, and more.
Plenty of deck chairs and chaise lounges surround the pool for relaxing in the warm sunlight. Numerous outdoor tables and grills are available for dining al fresco with friends or family.
Garden Lakes is conveniently located to shopping, excellent dining, golf, and more. Publix, Walmart Neighborhood Market, and Aldi grocery stores are within a 5-minute drive. Sam’s Club and the Walmart Superstore are also about 5 minutes away. Numerous fast food and sit-down restaurants are right around the corner; likewise, the post office, public library, pharmacies, banks, and numerous churches are nearby.
Are you a golfer? Peridia Golf and Country Club is just 5 minutes away. It’s a semi-private club that’s open to the public and features an 18-hole executive course that challenges players of all skill levels. The Club hosts a popular Sunday Brunch each week that’s open to the public and features a variety of breakfast & lunch dishes, plus a carving station, made-to-order omelets, salad bar, and much more.
Over a dozen more golf courses are just a short drive (or a long putt!) away, ranging from executive to championship level.
Like the relaxing sound of surf, the feel of soft white sand under your feet, and the glow of warm sunshine on your face? Then you’ll definitely want to spend time at our gorgeous Gulf beaches, which are less than 13 miles from Garden Lakes.
The Sarasota-Bradenton area is well known for its arts and cultural scene. You won’t have far to go to enjoy the theater, art shows, live music, and world-class entertainment in the area.
Excellent medical care is nearby as well. Dozens of doctors’ and dentists’ offices are located just minutes away, as are Manatee Memorial Hospital (less than 6 miles away) and Lakewood Ranch Medical Center (less than 9 miles away).

Many of the villas and single-family homes are situated on scenic lakefront lots or overlook meandering walking trails beneath a canopy of shady oaks.
Prices for the paired villas and single-family homes typically range from the low to high $200’s. Courtyard units are typically priced a bit lower, but they’re not available often.
